Tennis is my favorite sport to play, so I notice things in tennis photography that others might not. That racket wound all the way back, the knee almost kissing the court...this is the fraction of a second before everything releases. The overhead angle does something interesting: it flattens the scene the way tilt-shift photography does, making her read like a miniature figure on a vast, muted green plane, even though there's no lens trick involved. Most sports photography gets oversaturated in editing, but Rodriguez keeps the olive court and the blue kit tonal rather than punchy, which is what gives it that slightly cinematic stillness.
